The Darkness Is Passing and the True Light Is Shining
The old command is still the command.
Yet when we live it by the Spirit, it becomes gloriously new every time.
Thank you, J.D., for calling us back to the heartbeat of 1 John 2:7–8.
John doesn’t tell us what might happen someday.
He says it’s happening now:
“The darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.”
Not far away.
Not someday.
Now.
Every act of holy love advances the Kingdom and retreats the shadows.
This hit close to home for me today.
You asked if my ways of loving others have been self-interested—and what true, self-giving love would look like.
I know the answer—because the Spirit has been confronting it in me.
There’s someone close to me—my cousin—who believes faith is just an imaginary crutch, a tool people invent to get through life.
In the past, I didn’t meet his unbelief with patient love.
I met it with judgment.
When he wasn’t open to hearing about Jesus, when he spoke as though he already had all the answers, my heart grew hard and sharp.
I justified it as “defending the truth.”
But the truth is, I wasn’t defending Christ—I was defending my pride.
And to love any other way than Jesus loved me—even when I was blind and proud—is sin.
Now, by the Spirit’s grace, I am learning to walk differently.
To speak the truth without condemnation.
To see not just his arguments—but his soul.
To love him not based on his openness to me, but on Christ’s endless love for him.
Every time I step into that kind of love, something old becomes new again.
Not because the command has changed, but because my heart is being changed.
The darkness is passing.
The true light is already shining.
It’s not grand gestures.
It’s simple, costly acts of Christlike love that pierce the dark with resurrection fire.
💬 Sower Nation, what about you?
Where is the Spirit calling you to leave judgment behind—and pick up the radiant torch of Jesus’ love?
Let’s not just remember the resurrection.
Let’s live it.
For the Kingdom ❤️

It’s no wonder why God cannot sin and that Jesus lived a sinless life. It’s because they are love; pure and simple perfect love. Every essence of their being is love. Every action every deed is motivated by love. Every word every thought is founded in love. Where there is love, pure and simple perfect agapé love there is no room for sin.
And that’s where I fall short. How much of what I do, say, think, or imagine is based on sin/self? For me, becoming more like Him means displacing sin and self with love by beholding God in all his perfect love.
JD. Thank you for singing that hymn today. I first sang it at Bible Study Fellowship almost 30 years ago. It is challenging to sing but the words are so rich! I can’t get through the hymn without choking up! Getting teary and overwhelmed! I think that’s the point – God’s love is overwhelming! I will also continue to ponder your statement that love makes things new. Indeed it, He, does!
If you refuse to do what’s right
You’ll love darkness more than light.
You’ll fade off into the dark of night,
And falsely think you’re out of God’s sight.
Darkness hides; light exposes.
Light enlightens; darkness confuses.
Light gives sight; darkness takes it away.
(John 3:19)
God is all light; He has no darkness. (John 1:5)
Allow no darkness to stay (1 John 1:5)
In your mind and in your heart. (2 Corinthians 4:6)
Avoid the deeds of darkness and expose them. (Ephesians 5:11)
Let God illuminate your path (Psalm 18:28)
And transform your darkness (Psalm 27:1)
Into His glorious inner light. (Matthew 4:16)
Then you can be light in the world (Matthew 5:14)
And follow Jesus away from darkness. (John 8:12)
Never let your inner light grow dark. (Luke 11:35)
Quench not the Spirit and God’s light will always shine. (1 Thessalonians 5:19)
No darkness can hide you from God. (Psalm 139:11-12)
Come now and let God’s light shine
On all you think, say, and do.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine. (Matthew 5:16)
Never let your inner light become darkness. (Luke 11:35)
The Father of Light (James 1:17) wants you to be His child of Light. (John 12:36)
Turn away from darkness and live in the light. (Acts 26:18)
Continually devour the Bible with an open, humble heart. (Psalm 119:30)
Whenever we walk in darkness we lie and do not practice the truth. (1 John 1:6)
Wake up sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. (Ephesians 5:14)
When you’re hiding things and walking in darkness, you’re not following Jesus. (John 8:12)
Lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. (Romans 13:12)
Let Jesus rescue you from the dominion of darkness and establish His kingdom within you. (Colossians 1:13)
Never stop praising the One who has called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. (1 Peter 2:9)
Let the glory of God give you light and the Lamb of God be your lamp. (Revelation 21:23)
Darkness will never overcome the light. (John 1:5)
The Lamb of God is the light of the world. (John 8:12)
Is He your light 24/7/365?
WOW !
What a perfect compliment to J.D.Walt’s today message,”You Can’t Teach Love” and such a lovely hymn,”The Love of God”.

Oh J.D. thank you for the great effort you put into singing “The Love of God”… Enjoy this y’all… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGMyTq09GNs
As a DOM, I always appreciated when the choir members allowed themselves to be taken outside of their comfort zones. You’re the best.

Verse 3 of “The Love of God” wrecks me every time!! So beautiful!
A powerful word and hymn, J.D.! But I think I missed something… why did you title it “Love Cannot Be Taught”?
