  1. Gospel Leaders and Brothers/Sisters in Christ –

    Thanks J.D.! Who knew!

May 24 is a significant date in the Methodist calendar because it marks Aldersgate Day, especially important in Wesleyan and Methodist traditions.

    Here’s why it’s important:
    Aldersgate Day – May 24
    What happened?
On May 24, 1738, John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, had a powerful religious experience on Aldersgate Street in London.

    What did he say?
He wrote in his journal that around 8:45 p.m., while listening to someone read from Martin Luther’s Preface to the Epistle to the Romans, “I felt my heart strangely warmed.”

    Why does it matter?
This moment is often seen as Wesley’s true conversion—not to Christianity per se (he was already a priest)—but to a deep assurance of salvation by faith. It’s a cornerstone event in Methodist history.

    Connection to Martin Luther
The reading that sparked Wesley’s spiritual awakening came from Martin Luther’s teachings, specifically his commentary on Romans, emphasizing justification by faith—a core Protestant belief.

So, on May 24, 2025, Methodists around the world may commemorate Aldersgate Day to remember how Wesley’s encounter with Lutheran theology lit the fire that led to the Methodist movement.

If you’re writing or preparing something for this day, the themes are:

    Personal transformation

    Assurance of faith

    The power of grace

The link between Lutheran and Wesleyan theology

  2. Wrote and recorded some songs (EP), realizing now after today’s devotional, that they are simply my “expression of the gospel to others”. Would love for you to listen to them: Jack Ficklin, Artist, “On The Inside”. Thank you so much for the Seedbed and your love for Jesus.

  3. Do you have the Holy Spirit? (Does He have you?) If you allow God the Holy Spirit to live and freely work inside of you, He will:

    * Assure you when you are remaining steadfast and faithful to follow and obey Christ (and also, He will try to warn you when you are drifting from Him). (1 John 4:13)
    * Speak to you and guide you into the truth. (John 16:13)
    * Teach you so effectively that you won’t need any person to teach you. (1 John 2:27)
    * Remind you of things that Jesus said. (John 14:26)
    * Bear witness with your spirit. (Romans 8:16)
    * Supernaturally reveal things that your eye can’t see, and your ear can’t hear, directly to you. (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)
    * Empower you to understand the things that God has freely given you. (1 Corinthians 2:12-13)
    * Make you a powerful and effective witness for Christ. (Acts 1:8)
    * Unite you in a strong, heart-to-heart relationship with other believers “through the bond of peace.” (Ephesians 4:1-3)
    * Give you words to say as He personally speaks through you. (Matthew 10:20)
    * Fill you with power, love, and a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
    * Flow out of you like rivers of living water. (John 7:37-39)
    * Himself pray from deep within you. (Romans 8:26)
    * Convict you of sin and give you the desire and power to repent and to be free. (John 16:8)
    * Set you free from bondage to guilt producing sins and tormenting temptations. (John 8:32)
    * Produce the fruit of His character and holiness within you. (Galatians 5:22-23)
    * Transform you into Christ’s image from glory to glory. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
    * Release supernatural gifts in and through you. (1 Corinthians 12:4-11).
    * Personally direct and lead you through out each day. (Romans 8:14)
    * And much, much more. (Ephesians 3:20)

The Holy Spirit will never lead us to confess a false Jesus, but only the true Jesus — the risen Son of the living God — the Word become flesh. The Bible says that there are many false Christs. Any Jesus who is proclaimed to do or be any of these things is a false Jesus:

    * Approves of sin,
    * Refuses to confront sin,
    * Neglects to call for repentance,
    * Focuses on prosperity or self-esteem,
    * Refuses to call for self-denial and cross bearing,
    * Neglects to call for obedience to his words and to his will,
    * Is wrapped up in politics or aligned with a particular country,
    * Is lacking the supernatural power to do miracles and to transform human hearts today,
    * Is unable to personally lead and direct people by his Spirit,
    * Neglects to preach the kingdom (inner government) of God,
    * Is still in the tomb,
    * Is less than the same yesterday, today, and forever,”
    * Is unaligned with what the Bible says about him,
    * Is less than Almighty God, the Creator Himself.

  4. You lost me at mysterious. Mysterious is the part where people start making it up.
There seems to be no limit to a person who wants to do something and justifies it by saying the spirit is guiding them. It’s way too easy to be self deceived.
There is plenty of complexity in objective reality. That can be labeled as mysterious, but I would rather not. I say seek understanding. And continue to seek understanding. And through the process so Grace and humility and love and compassion to others. And walk the path with others that are seeking understanding.

  5. JD off script you mentioned that the Law was given on Pentecost. I once taught that Pentecost was a demonstration of the Spirit as the Law’s replacement.
This is not historically correct see https://www.biblestudyproject.org/bible-study-library/israel/was-the-law-of-moses-given-on-pentecost-a-tale-of-two-occasions/

While I do believe that the Law was replaced by the Spirit, I do it based on texts such as 2 Cor 3:7-18 as well as the teachings of Jesus and Paul concerning the HS.

The Law was transitory the and has been superseded by a greater glory that is everlasting.

It gives meaning to John 1:16-17. God’s gracious act of giving the Law is superseded by the grace given in Jesus.
