WHAT IS THIS? Wake-Up Call is a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. 2. How to Displace Fear with Love

Fearless love produces great peace of mind. To welcome, rely on, and align your will to God’s perfect love is to drive away fear and live free from its torment and worry. (1 John 4:18) Set aside your resistance to God by continually surrendering to, absorbing, and savoring His inner peace that confounds your comprehension. (Philippians 4:6-7) Let Christ’s peace consistently rule you and govern you from within. (Colossians 3:15)) Keep the affection of your heart (Colossians 3:2) and the thinking of your mind always fixed on and captive to Jesus, (2 Corinthians 10:5) the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6) Say goodby to love as a mere concept or impossible ideal and welcome it as the inner reality of the kingdom (government) of God (Romans 14:7) produced by God the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) — “Christ in you the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27)

  3. This reminds me of a statement I read a long time ago that pierced my heart because I was watching it play out between a professing Christian in my family with innocent younger members (NOT christians). It has caused me to see OVER and OVER in the Word our place in this life on earth as image bearers of Jesus. I have this statement on an index card that I see every morning getting reading for work. I don’t remember where I read it. It may have been on the Wake Up Call!!!

“I’ve learned that people may forget what you said; the may forget what you did; BUT people will never forget how you made them FEEL.”

    1. Hi Kelli –

Totally agree with the powerful statement made in your post.

I remember this statement from a Stephen Covey course that I took entitled – “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People in the 90’s. These words have stayed in my heart and on the “fly-leaf” of my mind all down through these years and have helped me in offering love and kindness to others.

    2. Thank you, Kelli, for reminding me of this truth in your last paragraph. So important to let people know they are “seen”.

  4. The fear of the Lord. When Jesus cried in the garden.
I don’t think the opposite of love is fear. But fear is a result of others not loving.
There’s the poetry of what is being said about fear. And to some degree fear does have to do with punishment sometimes.
But there are other reasons for fear not just punishment.
You can still love someone even though you are afraid of them hurting you. Divorce is like that.

  5. JD u don’t know how much i needed to hear this message this morning. What a blessing from God spoken thru u. May I always feel His holy love so I don’t need to fear

  7. It’s interesting how many times the Bible says, do not fear or do not be afraid. I believe fear does get in the way of love. I find when I decide not to fear someone, love is likely to result.

  8. I thought that fear was a lack of faith. When one fears about the storms to come, fears about the day of judgement, fears of all kinds, trust and faith are not present. When we surrender ourselves to God and truly love Him, why would we fear? Faith in Jesus doing what he said, caring for us and loving us first is hard to accept unless we believe and trust. Loving Jesus and trusting His word is a gift of faith. Love, trust, and faith are all connected. Fear has no part in any of it, although there are times when I feel myself slipping into a fearful place and I have to stop, take a breath, and believe and have faith that Jesus is with me, for me, and loves me. My response can only be to love.
I am still working on ALL of this, which is life changing for me.
Thanks JD for showing up in my inbox every morning with enthusiasm and joy and walking with all of us!
