WHAT IS THIS?Wake-Up Call is a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus that transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.

JD, what a Blessing to have your daddy join you in song. It is Beautiful to hear, and I’m so thankful it is unedited. Hang in there and be encouraged! Thank so much for all you do for the Building of the Kingdom! I’m Growing Heaven with you!
That was amazing I never thought of Love/ hate this way You really make me think 🤔 about things in a different way. Thank you for this and all seed bed does Blessings to everyone!
JD, the Holy Spirit is definitely using you in my life. Today has reinforced what I’ve been learning for a while. Especially those of us in the Holiness traditions focus too much on fixing the problems, not on restoring relationship.
A thought occurred to me. In whatever language was used in Eden, I wonder if they even had a word for love? Love was foundational with nothing to contradict it, so no need to point it out. The emphasis on love throughout the Bible is just to contrast fear, which did not exist before the fall. It’s to remind us that Love is constant, embodied in the creation, flowing from the Creator. It will always be there. Someday, fear will be gone.
Fear and hate are not the same. And they’re not necessarily related. People don’t necessarily hate because they’ve been hated. In the case of a narcissist, they’re victim often won’t hate, their codependent probably but not hateful. The narcissist is showing the hate by being selfish and self-serving at the expense of others. That would be the ultimate hate. We tend to sometimes think of hate as anger. But it isn’t. Hate is the effect of not caring about a person to the point of even using them and abusing them and not caring. Get it right.
I think we all have some sort of anger in us. The question is how we handle it. Quite often my go to verse is Ephesians 4:26 which says, “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.
Like an arrow that hits a bull’s eye, today’s words have truly rocked me to the core! I feel as if a piece I have been missing has been found and suddenly my understanding exploded! I have read these words from the Bible before, but never had them explained this way in such a manner! This morning I have read them and listened to them and feel like I have struck gold.
All I can say is thank you….this is wonderful how God works.
Wonderful insight…after listening this morning I read today’s Our Daily Bread devotional and the scripture for today is 2 Timothy 1:6-14. Vs 9-10 reiterate JD’s comments on God’s love has always existed … “who has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”
JD I want to thank you for taking the focus off of problems and behavior management which lead to self focus…and moving our focus on (abiding in) Jesus and life!
Recently started listening to the Wake Up Call, instead of reading. Lots of good stuff after the devotional. Thoroughly enjoyed you and your Dad singing this morning. Wrote a song about the truth, ck it out JUST ONE TRUTH Jack Ficklin Artist. Can you send me the Hymnal?
Thanks & God bless you even more.
