It’s vital to have and keep a clear conscience. Here’s why.
The human conscience isn’t perfect. The Bible clearly states that our conscience can be defiled. (Titus 1:15) However, all people are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) and the requirements of God’s law are written on our heart to varying degrees and reflected by our conscience. (Romans 2:14-15)
Because we all have gone astray and turned to our own way (Isaiah 53:6) our conscience is imperfect. It is often weak. (1 Corinthians 8:7) The Bible clearly states that our conscience can be defiled (Titus 1:15) and that it can even be seared. (Romans 13:5) We can have a good conscience (1 Timothy 1:5) or an evil conscience. (Hebrews 10:22) Because of that we have to fight to hold on to a good conscience that aligns with God and to avoid an evil or seared conscience that excuses and justifies our sins. (1 Timothy 1:18-19)
We need to always make sure that our conscience is confirmed by the Holy Spirit. (Romans 9:1) That’s what Paul said about himself: “I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.” (Acts 23:1) As Christ-followers we need to keep our conscience clear toward both God and man (Acts 24:16) by desiring to act honorably in all things. (Hebrews 13:8)
I will Always welcome you to go “LONG”. More bonus minutes please :-)….thnk u God for speaking thru JD and the farm team. What a gift that keeps on giving.
I agree Jennifer. God pours out his Spirit to us daily thru JD’s words. JD’s “good conscience” ( as Steve Simms explains it) responds to the truth of the love in which it has been rightly trained. In which case it is not self centered but Christ centered with much love and caring for his listeners. With all due respect for JD’s opinion . our conscience is an inborn gift from God just as the ability to love is an inborn gift from God. What we choose to put into it is a choice. Sometimes, hopefully most times, that choice can be Christianity. In which a good conscience built on the cornerstone of Christ “can” be very useful as a guide..
We love you JD. I don’t think this in any way a disagreement of what you were trying to say. Maybe just a bit of clarification. 😊❤️
