On the Difference Between Living for Jesus and Living from Jesus
Discipleship means learning to be “carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
We must remember that the journey of awakening, though often romanticized by history, is anything but romantic or nostalgic.
To travail in prayer is to stand in the gap between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world.
Our calling is to press on beyond adolescent faith and grow up into the maturity of love, which is nothing less the fullness of Jesus Christ.
We can pray for signs and wait for wonders as though these were the markers that what we were looking for had finally happened. Or we could move in faith.
Our imaginations must be discipled by the Word of God and the Spirit of God that we might learn to see the vision of awakening coming on the horizon.
The Spirit of God awaits those who are humble enough to hear the Word of God and bold enough to speak of the vision.
Not only are people healed of all sorts of maladies, but hospitals get built. Not only are the poor lifted out of their plight, but new centers of education are established.
With Jesus, life will not get easier and easier. In fact, it will probably get harder, but it will get better and better.
The Holy Spirit breaks the logjam within us, turning knowledge into knowing, quenching the eternal thirst of our souls, and making us move like a river from its source.
