This is a Psalm for Every Day.

Psalm 121

I lift my eyes up to the hills –
Where does my help find birth?
My help comes from the Lord who made
the heavens and the earth.

He will not let your foot to slip;
His watch o’er you He keeps;
Who watches over Israel,
He slumbers not nor sleeps.

The Lord keeps vigil over you,
The shade at your right hand.
Not sun nor moon will harm you, but
by day and night you’ll stand.

The Lord will keep you from all harm;
Your life He does restore.
He’ll keep you as you come and go
both now and evermore.

I’ve written about Song #121 before on the Daily Text. It’s one of my favorites.

While many of the Psalms deal with  particular kinds of circumstances, I think of #121 as an every day Psalm. Every single day, at the forefront of my mind, I want the following realities to be real in my every day experience:

My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let me lose my footing.

He will not go to sleep at the wheel.

He will keep me.

He is my shade.

He is my protection.

He will deliver me from evil.

He will hold my life together.

He will watch over me with all my comings and my goings.

This gives me confidence. I need not worry. He has me.

That’s enough.

Do you have an every day Psalm?

And can I recommend you sing this one to the tune “Great Britain?” You will find you already know it by heart. CLICK HERE.
