Happy Birthday Daily Text

LISTEN NOW!

February 17, 2022

1 Peter 1:22 NIV

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. 23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For,

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

CONSIDER THIS

Today is a very special day in Seed Land. On February 17, 2014, I began writing the Daily Text. And with a little help from my friends, it has not stopped since. I have just kind of Forrest Gumped my way through. And whether you joined me yesterday or you were that one soul who joined my Mom eight years ago today, I want you to know how much I appreciate you. Heck, I’ll just say it. I love you. I really do. That’s why I do this—for the glory of God and the love of you.

It’s fitting we land on this text today about the Word of God.

“All people are like grass,
and all their glory is like the flowers of the field;
the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord endures forever.”
And this is the word that was preached to you.

I want you to repeat after me, line by line, kind of like vows at a wedding.

“I am like grass.

My glory is like the flowers of the field.

The grass withers and the flowers fall.

But the Word of the Lord endures forever.

Therefore, I stake my life on Word of God.”

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

And because sometimes less is more, especially when it comes to my words, let’s leave it there today. Happy Birthday Daily Text!

THE PRAYER

Jesus, you are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God.  You are the living and enduring Word of God. Thank you that I can look behold you and see the Word of God in all its vivid fullness. And thank you for being our teacher, unfolding the Scriptures to us as the written Word of God. Holy Spirit, you who inspired the Word to be written down so fill me that this Word would be written on my heart, shining through my soul and remaking me in the likeness of Jesus. Praying in his name, Amen.

THE QUESTION

How are you growing in the Word of God and the God of the Word?

P.S. Two Ways to Celebrate Eight Years

  1. If the Daily Text has been an encouragement in your life and faith, would you consider sharing a word of endorsement we could use to encourage others to subscribe? You can share your endorsement here. And thank you.
  2. If you would like to financially support the Daily Text (which is always free despite being costly) you can explore those opportunities here (from sponsoring a day to making a gift of any amount). And thank you.

WHAT IS THIS? Wake-Up Call is a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus that transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.

  1. J.D. Thank you again for this vital ministry in my life. As you can tell by my constant comments, I follow these series very closely. After my time in solitude and prayer with our Father every morning, your ministry here at Seedbed are the first words I read each day. I look forward to hearing the Spirit’s voice speak through your words. As a side note, this Scripture about the grass and flowers reminds me that the whole purpose of blooms is pollination and to go to seed. These daily devotions pollinate me and cause me to go to seed.

  2. JD, thank you so much for the Daily Text. I do not remember when I began reading it, at the suggestion of my pastor, but it has been many years. I have matured in my understanding of God’s Word through your teachings and been inspired to step out in ways I never imagined for the Lord. May He continue to bless you with insight and wisdom.

  3. I find humble exposure (with an open heart) to the Word of God and the God of the Word to be the key to spiritual growth. When I read the Bible with my mind, I analyze it and gain some knowledge, but when I read it with my heart, the living Jesus speaks to me and changes me from within.

  4. I have been listening to the Seedbed daily text for a few years. It has become an important part of my day. Happy birthday Seedbed! And thank you JD Walt for your hard work to keep this daily text going.

  5. God Bless you for being a faithful servant. Your daily text has been a lifeline for me in some very dark days. Could you please post the first daily text you did? Blessings
