What’s so good about Good Friday? Well, we actually get the term because the word ‘good’ used to mean ‘holy.’ So, on this holy day, let us sit and welcome the dark place of Golgotha.
Settle Yourself: Release
Take a deep breath in and slowly let it out. As you breathe and relax, ask God to take anything that is on your mind into his strong hands. Ask him to help you trust Him to hold you during this time.
Listen: Soak in the Word
Matthew 27:45-46, 50
From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). […] And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
Reflect: Feast on the Word
As you read over this passage, place yourself in the darkness that covered over the land. Reflect on the words, “never was there grief like his.” Is there a dark place in your life that Jesus would like to enter and sit with you? Identify with his sorrow and suffering as He identifies with yours.
Pray
Jesus, man of sorrows, sit with me as I sit with you in this dark hour. Show me the dark places in my heart that you want to heal and redeem. Touch those places in me that grieve and suffer loss. Amen.
