No Fears, Just Faith

LISTEN NOW!

We ended yesterday by saying that one might fall into a momentary sin and yet remain in Christ. In that case, when we fall into sin we fall on our knees and get back immediately. The relation between you and Christ is not broken by the sin, only clouded for the moment, for the basic intention is not to remain in the sin, but to get back into His arms which are stretched out still (see Isaiah 9). Out of that momentary sin we rescue a good—a new watchfulness, a new prayerfulness, a new love for such a Savior.

A woman writes: “There have been only momentary flashes in my life when my mind hasn’t been walled in by fears, by conflicts, and by anxieties. Last night with your hands upon my head, kneeling down in Asbury Chapel, there was a feeling of strength, yet tender, and the hurting of a lifetime seemed to go away like magic. I went home walking on air and have felt beautiful all day—no fears, just faith that my life will work itself out all right and that my mistakes and sins are forgiven.” She was free—free from the law of sin and death.

A Christian girl had a fiancé who was an alcoholic. She found him dead drunk on the streets of Richmond, Virginia. She took out a handkerchief with her initials on it and put it over his face. When he was taken up, this handkerchief was put into his pocket. When he had slept off his drunk, he put his hand into his pocket and found the handkerchief. Seeing the initials, he went to a group, confessed everything, and was converted. He and the girl were married. Someone asked the woman, “What did you see in that man?” She replied, “I saw the grace of God and what it could do for him.” Forgiveness and the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made him free from the law of sin and death.

THE PRAYER

O my Lord, Thy forgiveness is Thy enablement—Thy enablement to walk free from the tyranny of cancelled sin. Whom the Son makes free is free indeed. We are free indeed. Read the gratitude of our hearts! Amen.
