The Gospel Is About Making Grown-up Christians

So many professing Christians are trusting in a deficient form of the gospel, namely, that Christianity is about believing in Jesus and then going to heaven in the afterlife. However, the totality of Scriptures casts a very different picture. The gospel is about heaven coming to earth through the saving work of Jesus Christ and the giving of the Holy Spirit. This means that those who follow Jesus are empowered to live a life transformed by grace.

In today’s Seven Minute Seminary video, Dr. Steve Rankin shares a vision for Christian discipleship that moves us beyond believing the right doctrines and engaging the right disciplines, and reaches far into our human dispositions.

Would you like to learn more about Christian perfection, sometimes referred to as entire sanctification, or holy love? “[Full sanctification] is the grand depositum which God has lodged with the people called Methodists; and for the sake of propagating this chiefly God appeared to have raised us up.” -John Wesley, Letter to Robert Carr Brackenbury, September 15th, 1790.
