The Word of God Is Absolutely Amazing

Psalm 1:1–6 (NIV)

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

CONSIDER THIS

The Word of God is absolutely amazing.

You knew that already. And yet it is more amazing than we can possibly realize or even imagine. This Word of God is written down in a book and yet before this Word was written down in a book this Word was with God and even was God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

Yes, before the Word of God became revealed as letters on scrolls and words in books He was the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. At the beginning of time this happened,

Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:3)

And in the fullness of time, this happened.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Yes, the Word of God is absolutely amazing.

Now, switch gears with me. Genesis 1 and 2, (the beginning of the Bible), reveal the vision of a flourishing creation with flowing rivers and fruitful trees in the center. Revelation 21 and 22, (the end of the Bible), reveal the vision of a flourishing new creation with flowing rivers and fruitful trees in the center. Is it any wonder that right in the middle of our Bibles is a vision of a fruitful tree by a flowing river? It’s almost too perfect to be true and yet we know the truth is stranger than fiction. The Bible is nothing if not true; nor is it mythological. The Bible is the revelation wherein truth and reality live in perfect harmony, all the while unfolding in the midst of the dissonant and disastrous realism of history. The Word of God reveals the truth about God while unveiling the beautiful albeit broken truth about us through a master plot of reclamation, redemption, and restoration.

Indeed, the Word of God is absolutely amazing.

Herein lies the whole point of the Wake-up Call. It’s about waking up to the Word of God like never before—the Word of God from before the beginning, the Word of God made text and the Word of God made flesh. This is the source and substance of our faith. Apart from this source we do not know God. Apart from knowing God we do not know ourselves. Apart from knowing ourselves we do not know our neighbors. And apart from knowing our neighbors we cannot love them. Here’s the hard truth. Apart from loving our neighbors, we do not love God and are merely deceiving ourselves.

It’s why Psalm 1:2 is so critical. The difference between the blessed ones and the wicked ones comes down to one thing: Their deep and abiding engagement with the Word of God.

Blessed is the one . . . whose delight is in the [Word] of the Lord,
and who meditates on his [Word] day and night.

Amen! Amen! The Word of God is absolutely amazing.

Okay, so tomorrow we talk about this matter of delight and meditation. This is the real work of sowing the Word of God into our hearts and minds.

Wake up sleeper! You are becoming the tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither who prospers in all they do.

THE PRAYER

Farmer God, thank you for the Word who was with you from before the beginning. Thank you for the word as inspired by your Spirit and written down on scrolls. And thank you for the Word made flesh in the person of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus, you are the perfect embodiment of the Word of God and its complete fulfillment. Now, Holy Spirit, would you write this Word on my heart and fulfill it in our lives together. Yes, the Word of God is absolutely amazing. Praying in Jesus’s name, amen.

THE QUESTION

Are you seeing the way all of this unites with perfect coherency in the person of Jesus? Are you ready for the life of faith to get much more simple and deeper and vastly more comprehensive in your life?

  1. The phrase “Christocentric “ is becoming more to me than just a theological term; it shows how we truly are enabled to be transformed into the image of Christ Jesus. This is how we “Turn your eyes upon Jesus “, and also how we too, can be full of truth and grace.

  2. Good Word of THE WORD!
When you see (know) Christ as Lord of life, you see Him as the source of life, then you’ll see Him in all of life despite the evil one’s veil of sin. Because without Jesus life, would be non-existent. Without Christ life falls apart. I’m evidence of that.
Learning to become like the One.
